Ex-Cult, Jawws, Chainshot, Western Medication, and Silk and Suede @ The End

8PM $10 18+

"Come party with us on 10/16 at The End with EX CULT, JAWWS, CHAINSHOT, WESTERN MEDICATION and SILK AND SUEDE! Doors at 8pm, show starts at 9pm sharp, and we'll be movin through things fast so don't blink or you'll miss party of the party!

On the tail of their excellent breakout 2nd LP "Midnight Passenger" on Goner Records, we have a brand new batch of bruisers from Ex-Cult, the Memphis-based punk cyclone that no doubt has laid waste to a town near you recently. Chris Shaw lends a sneering, spitting toughness to the proceedings while the band flays riffs in loose, hairy mosh inducing menace behind him, touching on post-punk, psych sprawl, and early 80s hardcore while remaining beholden to none. They have the power to convert even the most jaded and bored concertgoer into a sweaty mess in the pit, I’ve seen it first hand… punks, scene rats, skaters, skinheads, hardcore kids, druggies - so many disparate groups dig this band it’s like an MRR cartoon waiting to happen. This too-short collection of adrenal-enhancers are road warriors already - the title track’s chants of “trou-ble-finds-me” immediately transports me back to their packed and stanky show at The Smell every time I put the record on - the only problem with this sterling batch of sluggers is that it’s over too quick. - Matt Jones, Castle Face Records

Jawws is a hard fast loud band of best friends. After only a year in existence and a few drivers' licenses between them, they've torn through the Nashville punk scene to claim it as their own. They caught the ear of JEFF the Brotherhood, who released their first single on their homegrown label Infinity Cat Recordings. They melted the brains behind Third Man Records, who had them play their record-breaking Record Store Day party. They even inspired the Nashville Scene to create a whole new category for their annual Best Of issue, just so they could deem Jawws the "Best Teenage Punk Bank" in town. Actually, you know what? We'll let them handle it from here:

"The best punk band to grace this city since Diarrhea Planet penned “Ghost With a Boner” features the progeny of local rock power couple Cortney and Todd Tidwell. The median age of Jawws is probably 16, and yet they sound more like Black Flag than either of the Black Flag spin-offs currently on tour. Eli Tidwell makes Henry Rollins look like Morrissey, bouncing into mosh pits and leaping off stages with ultimate vigor. Their first recordings — all about skateboarding, girls and destruction, natch — bode well for Nashville’s punk-rock future."

We've seen the future, and it's Jawws.

Nashville based punk rock, loud fast and furious.

"The modern rock ’n’ roll landscape — in Music City and elsewhere — seems to be populated by a ceaseless stream of bands that define themselves as “psych rock” or “garage rock” or some hyphenate combination or iteration of the two. We all dig The Troggs and The Sonics and The Stooges, obviously, but it’s all the more thrilling when a hip young band mixes some more nuanced and less expected influences into their garage-brewed gumbo. Locals Western Medication do precisely that, particularly on their new single “Goes Around,” which features the kind of shimmering guitars you’ll hear on old New Wave and jangle-pop cuts by the likes of The Cure and Stone Roses."
