Ariel Lavery @ The Packing Plant

"The Packing Plant is excited to exhibit Ariel Lavery showing sculptural installation in Open Drawer. The exhibition opens February 07 on the First Saturday Art Crawl in Wedgewood/Houston in Nashville, TN, reception from 6-9pm.

Ariel Lavery presents installation of digitally remastered drawings, silk screen prints, and sculpture. The work sifts through the debris of mainstream domestic culture, disrupting familiar associations, motifs, and iconography of the home. The sculpture and installation play with the psychology behind the production of the middle-American domestic place by juxtaposing functional intent and idiosyncratic responsiveness, while the drawings were generated from images of materials found from craigslist and auction sites that make up the sculpture and installation in Lavery’s work. The three elements actively divide and collaborate with each other to redefine the audience’s trajectory through the particularities of the space.

Ariel Lavery graduated Magna Cum Laude with her BFA from the University of Colorado Boulder (2007) and received her MFA from the University of Massachusetts Amherst (2013). She has exhibited nationally in Colorado, Kentucky, Illinois, Maine, Massachusetts, New Mexico, New York, Texas, Tennessee, Vermont, and Washington, DC. Recent solo exhibitions include Project 1 at Zephyr Gallery in Louisville, KY and Afterward at the River Campus Gallery at Southeast Missouri State University. Recent two person and group exhibitions include Anything That Has a Front at Sam Houston State University, Huntsville, TX, Fresh at the AVA Gallery, Chattanooga, TN, The Best of the Northeast at the Helen Day Art Center, Stowe, VT, and Ice Breaker 5 at the Ice Cube Gallery, Denver, CO.
