Two Drafts of Four @ The Packing Plant

"The Packing Plant is very excited to exhibit Scott Zieher and Mike Womack in TWO DRAFTS OF FOUR. The exhibition opens the second Saturday of the month on September 12, from 6-9pm in Wedgewood/Houston, Nashville, TN. Refreshments will be provided.

In TWO DRAFTS OF FOUR, both Zieher and Womack create talismanic work in an effort to remember deceased loved ones. In this series, Womack is occupied with objects left behind by his mother by casting the objects in concrete, while Zieher reimagines a series of paper and advertisements he found of card stock from decorative and industrial design to conjure up memories of his father.

“The visual that comes to mind for me while think of this work is an amethyst. A crude and industrial exterior will give way to a hyper-personal fragmented interior only after some reductive intrusion is made into the object. I imagine them looking paleontological - the initial object, their casting, and attempted retrieval should all be evident in the object.”
-Mike Womack

“I found a treasure on the street consisting of about 500 individual pieces of card-stock in the form of a decorative arts and industrial design photograph library (circa roughly 1930-1975) a few years ago. Many fingers fondled these. Glue and ink, stains and information decorate each sheet, sometimes on both sides. I'd hoped to contain a single methodology and consistent imagery on the entire archive and then some.”
-Scott Zieher

Scott Zieher has published four books of poetry and has recently exhibited in exhibitions at The Museum of Wisconsin Art, Ampersand Gallery (Portland) and Judith Charles Gallery (New York). He is also owner of Zieher Smith & Horton (New York) where he has directed, curated and sold exhibitions since 2003. In 2014 he initiated (with Mike Womack) Nashville's SeedSpace Social Practice residency at Track 13 in Cummins Station. He lives and works in New York with his wife and two sons.
